Abstract: This paper represents the development of the roof greening from the definition, origin and the process in recent decades in China. Moreover, it summarizes four progresses in research respectively: the ecological benefits of the roof greening, protecting the structural layer of construction, the selection and maintenance of the plants in roof and new technology； finally it points out the problems and proposes suggestions in terms of laws and regulations, technological research and popularizion, providing theoretical reference for promoting the development of roof greening in our country.
