Abstract:
Eight herbaceous plants were chosen for the study of soil-reinforcement experiments. The maximum strength of herb roots and the corresponding root diameters were measured. Then the tensile strength was calculated on the basis of the measurement, which was used as a criterion for comparison of various roots for soil-reinforcement.The results indicate that the average tensile strength of Pennisetum alopecuroides (Linn.)Spreng is the greatest,26.46MPa,followed by Cornilla varia L,25.03MPa,Trfolium Reports L,22.01MPa,Buchloe dacyloides Engelm,20.93MPa,Fes-tuca arundinacea Schreb,15.84MPa,Medicago sativa,15.82MPa,Cynodon dactylom (L).Pers,14.54MPa,and Setaria viridis,11.99MPa.
